Dual Fuel:

This program is available on a second separately metered service where the customer has installed an approved electric and non-electric heating system.  The electric system would be the primary heating source and would be subjected to interruptions during times of peak electrical demand.  During the periods of interruptions, the customers alternate heating system would continue to heat the customer’s home for up to 12 hours.

Example:

I have in-floor radiant heat, the water solution that is pumped through the floor is heated using electricity. If the electric heater fails I have a backup propane heater for the water solution that automatically turns on. I have a module on my electric heater that is controlled by the public utilities. During peak load times the public utilities sends a signal to that module that shuts off my electric heater and my propane heater kicks on to compensate.
