Position Objectives:

 

 The Park Board meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 4:45 in City Hall.

The Grand Marais Park Board sets policy and determines the resources required to establish, maintain and operate a system of city-owned parks/buildings and other public areas that provide convenient access to a variety of natural environments, recreational opportunities, and social/cultural events within the city of Grand Marais where the residents of Grand Marais and visitors to Grand Marais feel welcome, comfortable and safe. 

In this effort, the Board is positioned as a resource and as a liaison for other community groups (as well as state, national agencies, businesses and associations) who share an interest in and the resources to enhance/maintain the natural beauty of Grand Marais,  provide public access to recreational opportunities, and provide opportunities for the natural environments of Grand Marais to complement the many public events (social, cultural, recreational and historical) that come to this community.

Board Members:

  • must be a resident of Grand Marais
  • are asked to serve a three-year term 
  • must have no material or financial interest that would benefit from membership have one vote on the Board 
  • do not receive compensation for their effort 
  • honor the mission 
  • participate actively in decision making 
  • attend Board meetings 
  • read all materials provided at meetings 
  • be an advocate for the organization
